The Alchemist

I loved the book. Santiago was a wonderful character that "followed" his destiny. Through conversations a couple of days ago I heard a woman say that she was going to wait to get married because of "The Alchemist." She said had Santiago gotten married he would have never found the treasure. Was "The Alchemist" about waiting to get married and finding your treasure, or following your destiny? I am sure you can see my point of view. If this poor girl waits around to get married and never finds her treasure because all along her destiny was to get married. Who knows if her treasure would have been a husband and/or child/children? Whether or not you get married, you can still follow your destiny. It will FIND you if you call it.

Santiago's destiny was to travel and to be enlightened. It was a different time period. Today, there is people that can't travel, and people who can. If you have the desire to travel, you can find a way.
I think that so many people look to books, movies and other people to tell them what they should be wanting...when all along they needed to simply look to themselves. People vacillate too much in our world. Make up YOUR mind and follow YOUR destiny. That is what  "The Alchemist" was about to me.

Southwest Writers Contest 2013

Southwest Writers contest is going on until May 1st. It is a great fun contest, no pressure and you can get feed back (if you pay the extra bucks). I submitted last year and was a runner up in the Children's poetry division. They have all the divisions. This was one of the few good reasons I spent a few months of my life in New Mexico chasing tumble weeds.  Check it out http://www.swwcontest.com/
